About Genre AI
We build tools that help people understand music — from identifying a song's genre to detecting whether a track was generated by AI.
Our mission
The amount of music being released every day is exploding — streaming platforms see hundreds of thousands of new uploads daily, and a growing share of them are AI-generated. Genre AI exists to give listeners, DJs, music supervisors and journalists fast, accurate tools to make sense of it all: what genre is this track, and was it made by a human?
What we build
Two free web tools and a mobile app:
- Music Genre Detector — records audio in your browser, identifies the genre and sub-genre across 200+ categories. Built on CLAP (Contrastive Language-Audio Pretraining), the LAION-developed model that enables zero-shot genre classification.
- AI Music Detector — upload an audio file and find out the probability it was generated by AI (Suno, Udio, MusicGen, Stable Audio). Built on SONICS, the SOTA open detector presented at ICLR 2025.
- Genre AI for iOS and Android — the same technology with history tracking, taste profiling and unlimited analyses.
How we build
Genre AI is a small, independent team. We don't run ads, we don't sell user data, and the free web detectors require no sign-up. The mobile apps offer optional subscriptions for users who want unlimited analysis and history features — that revenue funds the engineering work.
We rely on open research wherever we can: CLAP for genre understanding, SONICS for AI music detection, and pgvector for similarity search. Where we benchmark or measure something ourselves, we say so and we cite the methodology in the relevant article.
Disclosure
When our blog reviews or compares AI music tools (such as in our Best AI Music Tools 2026 round-up), we always note that Genre AI itself operates competing detection tools. We try to keep coverage factual and source-attributed; if you spot a claim that lacks a citation, let us know and we'll fix it.
