Privacy Policy

The app and the developer

This privacy policy applies to the mobile application Genre AI: Music Detector ID (the “App”) for iOS and Android, and to the website genre-ai.app.

The App is developed and published by Vadim Semenko, an individual developer, who is the data controller for the purposes of this policy. You can reach us at [email protected] for any privacy question or request.

The App is listed on the App Store and on Google Play under the name Genre AI: Music Detector ID, published by Vadim Semenko.

What we collect and why

Audio you record

When you press the record button, the App records a short audio clip (about 15 seconds by default) and sends it to our recognition server at api.genre-ai.app over an encrypted HTTPS connection. The clip is analysed in memory and is not written to disk or retained on our servers. What is kept is the result — genre, confidence, BPM, key, mood — so it can appear in your scan history.

The microphone is used only while you are actively recording, after you tap record. The App never listens in the background.

Device identifier

On first launch the App generates a random identifier (a UUID) and stores it on your device. It is sent with requests so your scan history can be tied to your device. It is not derived from any hardware ID and it does not identify you personally.

Account data (iOS only, optional)

On iOS you may optionally link an account with Sign in with Apple or Google Sign-In. If you do, we store your email address and display name so your history can follow you across devices. Linking is entirely optional — the App is fully usable without it. The Android version has no accounts and never asks for an email.

Purchases (iOS only)

Subscriptions on iOS are processed by Apple and managed through RevenueCat, which receives an anonymous purchase identifier and subscription status. We never see or store your payment card details. The Android version is free — it contains no purchases and no billing code.

Analytics and crash reports

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (Google) to understand which screens are used and to be told when the App crashes. This includes device model, OS version, app version, language, and coarse country — not your name, and not precise location.

Server logs for the AI detector

Requests to the AI-music detector are logged with IP address, user agent, file size and the verdict returned. This exists to enforce the rate limit and to detect abuse of an expensive endpoint. These logs are not linked to your account or scan history.

What we never do

• We do not sell your personal data. There is no market in which we would.
• We do not show third-party advertising inside the App.
• We do not collect the Android advertising ID. The AD_ID permission is explicitly removed from the Android build.
• We do not collect your precise location, contacts, photos, or files.
• We do not listen through the microphone outside an active recording.

On iOS the App may ask for permission to track (the standard App Tracking Transparency prompt) to measure how well our ads work. If you decline, no advertising identifier is used — and declining changes nothing about how the App works for you.

Who else sees this data

We share data only with the service providers that make the App run:

• Google (Firebase Analytics, Crashlytics) — usage analytics and crash diagnostics.
• RevenueCat — subscription state, iOS only.
• Apple / Google — payment processing and app distribution, on their own terms.

We may also disclose data where we are legally required to, for example in response to a valid legal request.

How long we keep things

• Audio clips — not retained. Processed in memory and discarded.
• Scan results and favourites — kept until you delete them or delete the App.
• Account data — kept until you ask us to delete the account.
• Analytics and crash data — kept per Firebase’s default retention (up to 14 months).
• Detector server logs — kept for a rolling window for abuse prevention.

Access, correction and deletion

You can clear your scan history and favourites at any time from Settings inside the App. Uninstalling the App removes all data stored on the device.

To request access to, correction of, or deletion of data held on our servers — including an optional linked account — email [email protected]. We will respond within 30 days.

If you are in the EEA or the UK, you have rights under the GDPR to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data, and to object to processing. Our legal bases are performance of a contract (providing recognition), legitimate interest (security, abuse prevention, product improvement) and consent (analytics and tracking where required). If you are in California, you have rights under the CCPA, including the right to know and delete — and we confirm again that we do not sell personal information.

Age

The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect data from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, contact [email protected] and we will delete it.

How data is protected

All traffic between the App and our servers is encrypted in transit with HTTPS. Servers are access-controlled and databases are not publicly reachable. No system is perfectly secure, but we do not keep what we do not need — which is why audio clips are never stored.

Our servers are located in Europe. Our processors (Google, RevenueCat) may process data in the United States under their own safeguards.

Updates to this policy

If this policy changes materially, we will update the effective date at the top and publish the new version at this address before the change takes effect.
