Small team · Independent · No ads

We build tools that help people actually understand the music they hear.

Genre AI is an independent two-person studio. We don't run ads, we don't sell your data, the free web tools don't ask for sign-up. Mobile-app subscriptions pay for the GPUs.

Mission

Make music understanding fast and free.

The amount of music being released every day is exploding — streaming platforms see hundreds of thousands of new uploads daily, and a growing share of them are AI-generated. Genre AI exists to give listeners, DJs, music supervisors and journalists fast, accurate tools to make sense of it all: what genre is this track, and was it made by a human?

The free web tools don't require a sign-up because friction kills curiosity. The mobile app exists because some people want history, taste profiles and unlimited analyses — and because subscription revenue funds the engineering.

What we make

Two free web tools and a mobile app.

  • Music Genre Detector — records audio in your browser, identifies the genre and sub-genre across 500+ categories using our own audio AI model trained on millions of labeled tracks.
  • AI Music Detector — upload an audio file and find out the probability it was generated by AI (Suno, Udio, MusicGen, Stable Audio). Powered by our AI music forensics model, purpose-built to catch the spectral fingerprints AI generators leave behind.
  • Genre AI for iOS and Android — the same technology with history tracking, taste profiling and unlimited analyses.
Team

Two people who keep mistaking deep house for tech house.

That's the whole team. We don't have a marketing department, a Head of Vibes, or a Discord moderator. We answer email ourselves.

How we build

Built in-house. No shortcuts.

Genre AI is a small, independent team. We don't run ads, we don't sell user data, and the web detectors require no sign-up. The mobile apps offer optional subscriptions for users who want unlimited analysis and history features — that revenue funds the engineering work.

Both detectors run on models we trained and maintain ourselves. The genre model has been through several generations and is updated roughly every two weeks with new sub-genre data. We benchmark on GTZAN and MagnaTagATune and report numbers we measured ourselves — if you see a claim, there's a methodology behind it.

Disclosure

When we compare ourselves to other tools, we say so.

When our blog reviews or compares AI music tools, we always note that Genre AI itself operates competing detection tools. We try to keep coverage factual and source-attributed; if you spot a claim that lacks a citation, let us know and we'll fix it.

Questions? Bug? Interesting dataset?

We answer all the email. Partnership ideas, bug reports, fringe-genre suggestions that should be in the taxonomy, datasets you want us to benchmark against — all welcome.
